Well, this isn't really a website of the *week* anymore, is it? I should find a new name for it. Anyway, SensibleUnits.com is the website and it is pretty darn neat. You basically plug any measurement into it and it will tell you how large that is in "real" terms. For example, 20 yards = 2.2 London buses end to end. 500mm = 4.2 CDs side by side. I could spend all day playing with this. And now I have infected you too!
No room on my desk!
I wonder if I could get some sort of wall speaker mount for my computer speakers. I don't have a whole lot of space on my room and, even though my speakers are pretty tiny, I could use the room they take up. Maybe I can mount them on the wall behind my desk. They should still sound the same, they just wouldn't be on my desk anymore. It might look a little odd and I wouldn't be able to move my desk without moving my speakers but it's not like I have anywhere else to put my desk anyway. This is definitely something I will have to ask the husband about.
The World Is Yours Now
I've been slacking on the Website of the Week feature and I apologize for that. However, while this isn't an official Website of the Week, there is some pretty interesting information at The World Is Yours Now. There's a few articles on how to make money with your blogs but I think the one that is currently helping me the most is the one on tools for freelancers. Even though it's not an extremely in-depth post, it is a start in the right direction. I'd like to see a little bit more on the topic along with some links for freelance writers.
As a whole, it is a pretty good blog with some decent information on making money on the internet. There are also some fairly helpful links as well. I'm looking forward to reading new information on how to make my blog better and bring in additional readers. Hopefully, The World Is Yours Now will be an asset to everyone.
Too many computers!
My husband is a Network Administrator by profession. Needless to say, we have a lot of computers. The current count: 4. His computer, my computer, our laptop, The Geek Within's server. However, there will be more computers coming shortly. I will be getting my own laptop and we are supposed to be setting up a computer for our daughter. In the future, we could probably use a KVM switch. Especially if we decide to upgrade The Geek Within's server to two boxes instead of just one. Ah, geeky computer parts are so cool.
Hai Fidelity column
Do you enjoy reading my music reviews? Well, now I'm writing a bi-weekly column for Anime News Network titled Hai Fidelity. The first column, a review of L'arc~en~Ciel's latest album Kiss, went up today. I hope you enjoy reading it!
Making your own business cards
I decided to try to make some business cards for The Geek Within. My first problem was logo design. I don't really have one for the site. Luckily, LogoYes made it really easy for me to make a logo and stick it on some business cards. I started by going through their logo designs. There was a ton of them but they were divided by type. I, personally, picked a "Flair" logo. From there, you can pick the type of industry you are in. (I picked Arts & Entertainment.) I scrolled through the various logo designs and found a dragon design that I really liked. After adding some text, you have the option to change the size and colors of both the logo and the text. Then...well, that's it! You order your cards right from there. Quick and easy.
By the way, here is the design I chose:
Pretty cool, huh? I can't wait to order some!
NaBloPoMo every month!
Back in November, I joined NaBloPoMo, National Blog Posting Month. While it was similar to the NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in that it lasted for the entire month of November, NaBloPoMo has now gone monthly. Every month there will be prizes randomly awarded to those who write at least one blog post every day for each month. (Meaning, if you blog once a day for the 31 days in March, you are eligible to win March's prize.) I'm planning on taking part in this so be prepared for a lot of posting from me. Feel free to join too!
Looking at laptops
My husband and I went to Best Buy today because he needed a new power supply for his computer. While we were there, I took a look at some of the laptops. I'd really like to get a laptop of my own. One of the biggest factors for me is laptop memory. I need a laptop small enough that it's not heavy and I can use it anywhere but I need enough memory to handle everything I want to do. And, of course, it has to be within my budget. Decisions, decisions!
Laptop stuff
A couple of years ago, my husband and I used to run an anime convention. Last year we handed everything over to other staff members as it was getting to be too much work for us. But back in the beginning, it was pretty much just the two of us with a bit of help from some friends. We even used our own equipment to run it. Looking back, it probably would have been a better idea to look at laptop rentals instead of using our own stuff. I mean, we put a lot of personal computer and video game equipment at stake. We were really lucky. None of our stuff got broken. Except for the iPod that was stolen and we wouldn't have rented that anyway.
Internet interference
As I am slightly bored today, I am posting a whole lot. I guess that's a good thing for you. ^_^ Speaking of posting, my posts from home may be a little sporadic. Mostly because we have been having problems with our internet connection. While the cable company believes they have fixed it, there are still problems occasionally. I'm not sure if upgrading the cables between all the connections to fiber optic cables would help or not. Fiber optic cables are supposed to cut down on interference and I know we've been having some problems with interference from some sort of radio signal in the area. My husband's Xbox 360 has been losing the signal from the controllers (yes, controllers with brand new batteries so that isn't the problem) and when he uses the headset, he can hear phone conversations once in awhile. I'm not sure if that would interfere with our internet connection or not. I guess it's just another thing for me to look into.
