One of the sad things about my workplace is that they have started to block a lot of social media websites. This not only includes Facebook and LiveJournal but also YouTube. It's the main reason there haven't been any Favorite Friday videos in awhile. By the time I get home, I often forget to look for a video for you. Maybe what I need to do is use a youtube downloader and send the files to my work computer to give to you. That seems like an awful lot of work though. Do you miss the Favorite Friday videos? Should I try to figure out a way to bring it back?
Legend of Zelda symphony
I am the best wife. This morning I purchased tickets to the Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses. Both my husband and my daughter love the Zelda series. I admit that I played the original Zelda game but I haven't paid a lot of attention to the rest of the games. It should be a fun night out. I think both of them will enjoy the concert and that is all that matters to me. However, this may be another event that calls for a new dress. I can't very well go to the symphony in jeans. (Ooh, does this mean I can look at dapper Mens Hats for my husband? Awesome!) Unfortunately, since this concert is in July and the wedding we're going to is in March, it is unlikely that I will be able to wear the same dress to both events. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to lose a ton of weight by July so the need for a new dress will be even greater. And maybe, by then, dress shopping won't suck as much.
TV Review: Sherlock

Pretty much everyone knows who Sherlock Holmes is so I won't go into too much detail. For those of you that don't (shame on you), here is the nitty gritty: Sherlock Holmes is a strange man who reaches grand conclusions with only the smallest of details. Since he is not much of a "people person," he requires someone to not only help him out in day-to-day activities (such as shopping) but also someone he can bounce thoughts off of. This person is John Watson, a former military doctor who longs for more action in his life. Together, they help Scotland Yard solve the toughest cases.
First, I want to talk about the bad points of the show. There really is just one. The entire first season is a mere three episodes long. Just as we're starting to love Sherlock and his insane ways, they unlovingly dump us on the floor. There is a second season, which is also only three episodes, but it didn't start until this month! I haven't watched it yet so I'm hoping it's as good as the first.
Now. Let's talk about the good points. Benedict Cumberbatch is absolutely amazing as Sherlock. He is able to bring forth the smugness and frustration that is Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock knows he is smarter than everyone else in the room and it frustrates him when people miss things he considers obvious. Also, Martin Freeman is an ideal match as Watson. Watson isn't there to be brilliant or awesome. He is just there to continually keep Sherlock grounded in the real world. I couldn't imagine anyone else in these roles. The show would fall apart of these two weren't so good.
I also love the cinematography of the show. In the first episode, as Sherlock notices things, random words appear on the screen. It isn't until Sherlock pieces everything together for us that we realize what the words mean to him. For once, we get to see a bit of the inner workings in Sherlock's brain. No wonder the world is so frustrating for him.
For you old-school Sherlock fans, there are some minor changes but not a lot. He no longer smokes pipes (not even cigar specials). Instead, he uses nicotine patches. He claims the nicotine helps him think but it isn't convenient to smoke in London nowadays. We do get to see him playing the violin a little. Though, I fully admit that it isn't very good violin playing. Perhaps we'll get something better in the next season.
Sherlock is an awesome piece of television. If you get a chance to see it, be it on PBS or on Netflix, do it. You definitely will not regret it. And, if we're lucky, we'll get to see the second season sooner. I'd hate to have a wait another year and a half to see what happens!
There are more jdrama reviews coming!
I am sure that everyone has heard about the problems at MegaUpload by now. While this causes a problem for a lot of fandom communities, it does not cause much of a problem for me. So, no worries, I will still have jdramas to review. I just need to get my butt into gear and do it. Tomorrow I will start watching the next series. It will happen! But not today. Today I will research Argan Conditioner to see if it will help fix my dry hair problem. See, I have very curly hair and curly hair tends to be dry, which causes frizzies. I'm currently using a leave-in conditioner but I'm not particularly happy with it. Unfortunately, I don't know many people with the same problem and all the curly hair forums I read contradict each other. I have an idea that this is going to end up with me buying a bunch of different products and trying things out until I find something that works. Wish me luck!
Dress shopping
My husband's friend is getting married in March. This means I have about a month to find something to wear. I found some very cute plus size dresses online but, of course, they are pretty expensive. I'm not sure I can get my husband to drop $200 or more on a dress I'm probably only going to wear once. This one is really cute but, not only is it expensive, it will also take way too long to get to me. Man, I hate dress shopping.
It figures
As I said yesterday, I sent my daughter off to school even though she said her stomach still hurt a bit. When she came home, I asked her how she was feeling. Apparently, all she needed to get better was to go to school. She was running around at recess and ate chicken nuggets for lunch and even had Chinese food for dinner! I should have buckled earlier. Speaking of school, I have to look up when Grandparent's Day is. The school usually has some sort of visitor's day thing and I don't remember there being one so far. Maybe I completely missed it. Hmmm...
Normality? Hah!
Everyone is back to their routines today. (Yes, this includes me surfing around the internet trying to figure out what a zero gravity windscreen is and wondering if I need to buy one.) My daughter is still feeling a bit off but it's nothing that she can't work through. She's a real trooper. While it's nice to have her back in school, I'm still worrying about whether she feels all right. I feel guilty sending her off to school when she says her stomach hurts, but there is nothing else keeping her home. It's not even an awful stomachache, just a minor one. I hope everything is OK.
Working At Home
Yup, it's my turn to be home with the sick kidlet. Luckily, I do have the ability to work from home. Sadly, working at home is not the glamorous lifestyle people imagine. There is no lounging by the pool gate, drinking in the sun while tapping away on your laptop. No. Instead, it is trying to send emails while your connection to the company server is slower than molasses and feeling guilty for walking away from your computer for any length of time. (Yes, this includes things like 'making lunch' or 'going to the bathroom.') I'm happy that I have the option to work at home so I don't have to waste my vacation days when my daughter is sick. It's just not an ideal situation. Though eliminating the commute saves a ton of time.
Switch it up
It was my day to go into work today while my husband stayed home with the sick child. If my daughter is still not feeling well tomorrow, I will be working at home with my welding helmet on so I can keep the germs away. I don't need to get sick myself! Jokes aside, I really hope that she gets better soon. I don't think she'll fall too far behind in school but one can't be too careful. I'm going to try to get her to do a little bit of studying tonight to keep the information fresh.
Another Day Home
My daughter was, once again, sick today. However, I didn't get to spend the day being lazy. I had to take her to the doctor and I had to clean the house a bit. (Nope, no raleigh house cleaning service for me. I do it myself.) So I am pretty tired right now. But I still have my Zumba class tonight. Maybe I'll go to sleep early tonight. After all, I have to head back to work tomorrow. Hopefully my daughter will be well enough to go back to school.
