A poll and more
[poll id="48"] Unfortunately, today started out awful. While the morning news claimed there were "slick spots' on the road, what they really meant was "the entire roadway is coated with ice." So, instead of being in work on time, I spent a couple of hours at my mother's house waiting for the ice to melt. At least it's gone now. I hope that it will stay this way until I get home tonight.
TV: Cougar Town

Here's the premise: Jules (Courtney Cox) is a recently divorced woman with a 17-year old son. With a bit of help from her best friends - Ellie (Christa Miller) and Laurie (Busy Phillips) - she tries to put a little excitement in her life and, maybe, find a good man along the way.
At first glance, it doesn't look like it would be anything spectacular. However, the writing and the cast are absolutely perfect. None of the characters are overbearing (or at least they aren't for very long) and you always feel like you are in on the joke. I know that some people are put-off by the title. Look past the words and let the laughter commence!
Coming back to the beginning
I know there have been a lot of ads on the site lately. My problem is that I feel like I've already talked about everything that I do nowadays. I don't watch a whole lot of new shows (though there are a few I could talk about) and there aren't really any awful reality shows for me to get into. Even the music I listen to has kinda stagnated. But I suppose that things that are old to me could be new to you. So that is my vow. I will post more 'real' items and less about Wholesale Insurance or diet pills. I can do this!
A cool stroller for new parents
This is mostly aimed at those new or soon-to-be-new parents out there. Here's a pretty neat stroller that can grow with your child. It's called the Baby jogger city select stroller. You can use it with a car seat and, as your baby grows, you can adjust it to fit them. I didn't have anything like that when my daughter was little. Our stroller could use the car seat when she was an infant, but then it was a fairly regular stroller after that. I'm jealous!
Favorite Friday
I watched the 2009 Kouhaku Uta Gassen earlier this week. Perfume performed their song One Room Disco. Not only did I enjoy the unusual sound of the tune, I also loved their cute little dance. Unfortunately, it seems that most of their songs sound the same. At least I'll always have this, right?
Outage and Dance
Sorry about the unscheduled downtime. Our ISP switched (not by our choosing) and, somehow, messed everything up. I'm not particularly happy that the site was down for so long. I'm pondering moving The Geek Within to an outside host. (Currently, the server box for the website is in my dining room.) If I do decide to do that, I will try to make the move as painless as possible. Originally, I wanted to talk about my dance class. I take jazz every Wednesday night and, let me tell you, there is no need for a quick weight loss diet with this class. We dance hard and fast for 45 minutes each week. I've lost 3 inches off my hips just by giving up soda and taking this class. I love it!
Fat burners?
As I'm sure you've figured out by now, I'm not a big fan of diet pills. However, they intrigue me. Especially with terms like "fat burner." You can only burn fat if you're using more than you are taking in. That is why people always say 'eat less and workout.' You need to get your muscles going in order to burn up the fat stores. How is a pill going to accomplish that?
Sleeping pills?
I fully admit that there are many things in this world that I don't understand. One of them is sleeping pills. See, I love sleep. I can sleep pretty much anywhere at anytime. So, I don't understand how someone can have trouble falling asleep. I suppose there are people that aren't able to shut their brain off long enough to get the body rested. It's still way out of my experience though.
TV review: Alice

As usual, there were things I absolutely loved and hated about it. The Mad Hatter (Andrew Lee Potter) was brilliant. I think that watching the entire show was worth it JUST for him. Matt Frewer also gave a wonderful performance as the White Knight. I also liked the little touches that made Wonderland...Wonderland. On the down side, the flamingo aircycles were odd. They served a purpose but it seemed like they could have used something better. Also, the White Rabbit pretty much disappeared after the beginning of the show. I would have liked to have seen him just a bit more.
In comparison, I liked Tin Man much better than Alice. However, Alice wasn't a waste of my time. I didn't feel cheated or anything like that. Then again, I blame the Mad Hatter. He was just too awesome for words.
