I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but my house is a wreck. To be completely honest, we didn't pay a lot for this house because it needed a bunch of things fixed. (For example, the entire house needs replacement windows hampton because a lot of the glass is either cracked or broken. Luckily, the really bad windows are at the back of the house so you can't see it from the front.) We knew this up-front. It's the "behind-the-scenes" stuff that actually annoys me. The previous owners tried to fix some stuff by themselves and screwed it up worse. I think we've finally fixed everything they've broken so now we're down to the things we knew were wrong. I'm almost ready to just level the place and start all over.
New car!
So I told you that I was in a car accident and my car was totaled. However, I haven't shown you my new car yet. I just bought it last Wednesday. I absolutely love it! It is a 2008 Honda Fit Sport.
Isn't it awesome?
My car accident
On Tuesday evening, my daughter and I were in a car accident. Neither of us were injured, thankfully. My car, however, will most likely be totaled. I should hear the official word from my insurance company sometime today. I'm a little upset because the accident was totally avoidable. (The other driver was driving too fast for conditions, lost control of her car, and hit mine.) As a result, I'm going to have to go car shopping (which I hate) and I have to go shoe shopping (which I also hate) because my work shoes were pretty much destroyed in the rain and mud. But at least everyone is OK. Cars and shoes are replaceable.
Best food day EVER!
It was such a nice day that I spent a majority of the day outside with my family. First, we went cherry picking. I know it may sound a bit hippie but fruit picking is awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone with a good orchard near them. Afterwards, we hit up the market at the orchard. Later, we went to a local farmers' market and bought even more food. We bought so much stuff that I wish we had Osprey Backpacks to carry everything! (It didn't help that the bagboy at the farmers' market overpacked the bags, making them very heavy.) The cherries we picked are delicious. The roast beef we got at the farmer's market is the best I have ever tasted. My husband made hot roast beef sandwiches and I even ate a bunch of the roast beef by itself. I almost ate everything instead of packing away part of it. Today was the best food day ever. I can't wait to do it again soon.
Auction shows too!
Besides disaster reality shows, I've found myself watching a lot of storage auction shows now. I didn't realize how many of these shows there were! While I do enjoy Storage Wars on A&E (they seem to find an awful lot of gold bullion in those lockers), I think I like Auction Hunters better. I know that AH doesn't show the bad lockers like SW does, I like that they show the really big ticket items that the guys find. On the other hand, I do hate the haggling that Alan and Ton do with their customers. It kinda makes me uncomfortable. I guess I just like knowing how much I am paying for things up front instead of having to bargain. That part seems like a big waste of time but it must work for them since they manage to talk people into paying big bucks for stuff.
Disaster shows
It's kinda funny watching those reality shows on Discovery channel. Disaster Preppers is definitely one of my favorites. One of the things I find funny is some of these people want to flee to Mexico (instead of doing something dumb like fence Houston in) when "the shit hits the fan." They seriously think that people will murder them for their food and supplies but they want to head to Mexico. Do they really think it would be safer there? Of course, I don't think that people would go into a frenzy. We've had some major disasters happen already and, yes there was some looting, but no one tried to kill their neighbors for food. I just don't see that ever happening.
The surgery is over
Amazingly, my husband came through the wisdom teeth surgery with flying colors. Instead of laying around sleeping all day, he's been up and around playing his video games and whatnot. It almost made my time off unnecessary. (I did have to drive him home from surgery since he had anesthesia.) While he was getting worked on, I spent my time googling universal vs term life insurance and watching a couple episodes of Hito ni Yasashiku. I only have 4 episodes left. With any luck, you'll have a new review next week. Of course, that all depends on how my husband's recovery goes over the next few days. Supposedly Saturday will be the worst. Wish us luck!
Mens Jewelry
My husband is having his wisdom teeth removed today. I'm working from home this afternoon so I can take care of him. To help him feel better, I was thinking about getting us new wedding rings. (We didn't really do anything special for our 10-year anniversary anyway.) While looking at jewelry, I came across a website for mens black diamond earrings. Instead of being really nice men's jewelry, the website is full of cheesy-looking bling. So, I turn to you, readers. Where you do usually buy your jewelry?
Bean bag chairs?
A couple of years ago, my husband bought an (ugly) orange Star Wars bean bag chair for our daughter. After awhile, the bean inners became smooshed and the bean bag lost its support. One of our dogs ended up taking it over. My daughter frequently complains that her favorite chair is no longer any good for her (even though it is perfect for the dogs) so I've been looking at other bean bag chairs to replace it. Who knew that bean bags could be so freaking expensive! I believe we bought the Star Wars chair for around $30. The ones I found online run $80 to $100! And there are bean bag sofas. Seriously, who is buying bean bag sofas? I don't think college kids would even buy those. Not when you can buy a 'real' piece of furniture from IKEA for a similar price!
Playground equipment prices
I don't think I realized how expensive children's play structures can be. I came across a website that shows a piece of equipment similar to the one at my daughter's school. It costs almost $19,000! The smaller one that I've seen at some other local schools is $10,000! And that one is basically a couple of slides linked together with a bridge. It's pretty unbelievable how expensive that one is, especially in comparison to the 'super deluxe' one. It makes the smaller one seem very overpriced. Now I kinda feel bad when schools have to replace their equipment. They are totally getting shafted.
